16 The culturally embedded routines of appropriating urban spaces. Everyday practices of male socialising in public spaces in Baku (top) and Yerevan (bottom left and right). In some cases, male socialisation practices rely on improvised infrastructures and neighbour’s efforts at setting up the hangout corners. While such practices may pre-date Soviet period, the Soviet planning seems to have considered the need to provide infrastructure for such socialisation practices, which retain importance to the date.
